2018 Heliophysics Technology Demonstration (TechDemo)

Mission of Opportunity (MO) under the Solar Terrestrial Probes Program

Missions of Opportunity are conducted as a Principal Investigator (PI)-led space investigation to advance NASA's strategic objective in heliophysics, which is to "[u]nderstand the Sun and its interactions with the Earth and the solar system, including space weather." The solicitation will be released through a NASA Program Element Appendix (PEA) to the Third Stand Alone Missions of Opportunity Notice (SALMON-3).

  • December 3, 2020 ... NASA announced the science and technology demonstration investigations selected for the Solar Terrestrial Probes (STP) component of the 2018 Heliophysics Science Mission of Opportunity (MO) and the 2018 STP Technology Demonstration MO. (Press Release 20-120).
  • December 2, 2020 ... NOTICE: Amended December 1, 2020. The CSR Evaluation Plan has been amended to update the Organization Charts for all three evaluations and to update the list of Observers for both Programs. New text is bold; deleted text is struck through.

  • August 13, 2020 ... NOTICE: Amended August 13, 2020. The CSR Evaluation Plan has been amended to reflect changes in the CSR Guidelines and Criteria document that was amended on May 19, 2020. The CSR Guidelines and Criteria changes include the impacts of COVID-19 (date changes and fully virtual evaluation process) and language changes to Evaluation Factors B and C. The amended CSR Evaluation Plan also reflects the assignment of Dr. Amy Winebarger as the CSR Evaluation and Science Panel Chair for the Heliophysics Science - STP Component MO CSRs and the current evaluation process. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking information under this Request for Information (RFI) to assess community interest, concepts, and rough order of magnitude (ROM) cost for secondary payload integration services onto Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle Secondary Payload Adapter (ESPA) rings to be exercised on future Science Mission Directorate (SMD) missions.
